Track Player Stats: Goals, Assists, Cards, and More

· 4 min read

Knowing the final score of every match is useful. Knowing who scored, who assisted, who picked up cards, and who was named MVP — that's what turns a tournament into a story. Score7 tracks individual player statistics across all matches and aggregates them into automatic leaderboards, so you always know who your top scorer is without maintaining a separate spreadsheet.

What you can track

The available stats depend on the sport:

SportStats
Football (all variants: 5-a-side, futsal, beach, etc.)Goals, assists, yellow cards, red cards, clean sheet, MVP
BasketballPoints, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, fouls
RugbyTries, conversions, penalties, drop goals
Volleyball (indoor and beach)Points, aces, attacks, blocks, digs

Most stat fields are simple numbers — how many goals, how many assists. Two special types exist: clean sheet is a checkbox (yes/no per match), and MVP is a unique selection where only one player per team per match can be picked.

How to enter stats

  1. Enter a match result as you normally would
  2. After the result is saved, click Update Stats on that match
  3. A dialog shows both teams side-by-side with their player rosters
  4. Fill in the stats for each player — goals scored, assists made, cards received
  5. Save

If a team doesn't have players set up yet, you can add them directly from the stats dialog without leaving the page.

Stats can be updated or corrected at any time. If you fix a match result and the winner stays the same, all player stats for that match are preserved. If the winner changes, stats for that match are removed (since the result is fundamentally different).

Automatic leaderboards

Every stat type gets its own leaderboard on the Stats page — top scorers, most assists, most yellow cards, and so on. These update in real time as you enter stats across matches.

The leaderboards are visible to everyone who views the tournament, not just organizers. Participants, spectators, and anyone with the tournament link can see who's leading each category.

Exporting stats

Stats are included in Score7's export options:

  • PDF export (Premium) — each stat category gets its own table showing rank, player name, team, and value. Print the top scorer list for the awards ceremony, or include it in your sponsor report.
  • CSV export (Premium) — downloads all categories in a single file for further analysis. Players with zero values are excluded to keep the file clean.

For a full overview of PDF exports, see the PDF export guide.

Practical uses

End-of-season awards. Top scorer, most assists, best goalkeeper (clean sheets), fair play (fewest cards) — the data is already there. No need to count manually at the end of the tournament.

Sponsor reporting. Sponsors want numbers. A printed PDF with top scorers, assist leaders, and match MVPs gives them something concrete to share.

Player development. For youth leagues and school tournaments, tracking individual stats over a season helps coaches identify strengths and areas for improvement.

Bragging rights. For casual leagues and office tournaments, the stats leaderboard adds a competitive layer that keeps people engaged between matches.

How to enable stats

Three things need to be true:

  1. Players are enabled — in your tournament settings, turn on the "Players" option. This lets you add individual players to each team.
  2. The sport supports stats — football, basketball, rugby, and volleyball have predefined stat types. Custom sports don't have stats available.
  3. Stats are enabled — in Advanced Settings, make sure the stats toggle is on. It can be toggled independently of the players setting.

Once all three are active, the "Update Stats" button appears on every match that has a result.

Works with every format

Stats work across all tournament formats — round-robin, knockout, Swiss, double elimination, and multi-stage. Whether it's a single weekend cup or a league running across months, player statistics accumulate across every match in the tournament.

Good to know

  • Stats are per-tournament only. There's no cross-tournament career stats feature (yet).
  • Stat types are predefined per sport — you can't add custom stat categories.
  • Entering stats requires editor or admin access. Viewers see stats in read-only mode.
  • Stats entry is available after a result is entered, not before.
