From a small 4-team bracket to a full 64-team championship, you need to know how many rounds you'll play, how many matches to schedule, and how the bracket flows from start to finish. Here's everything you need for every common bracket size.

Running a tournament involves a lot of moving parts. Miss one detail and you're scrambling on the day. This checklist breaks everything down by timeline, from initial planning to post-event wrap-up, so nothing falls through the cracks.

Every tournament needs a clear set of rules, published before the first match. When something goes wrong (a disputed score, a late arrival, a team that brings an ineligible player), you want to point to a document, not make it up on the spot.

Knowing the final score of every match is useful. Knowing who scored, who assisted, who picked up cards, and who was named MVP: that's what turns a tournament into a story. Score7 tracks individual player statistics across all matches and aggregates them into automatic leaderboards, so you always know who your top scorer is without maintaining a separate spreadsheet.

Two teams finish with the same score. Or two teams end up with identical records in a group. What happens next depends on where in the tournament the tie occurs: in a knockout match or in the standings.

If you've ever set up a knockout bracket with 5 or 6 teams, you've probably noticed the math doesn't quite work. Some teams have to sit out the first round. That's a bye, and it's completely normal.

A group stage is the opening phase of a tournament where teams are divided into small groups and play round-robin within each group. The top teams from each group then advance to a knockout bracket. It's the format behind the FIFA World Cup, Champions League, Rugby World Cup, and thousands of local tournaments every weekend.

No tournament goes perfectly. Something will go sideways: a team won't show up, the schedule will fall behind, someone will dispute a result, or the venue will throw a curveball. The difference between a chaotic event and a smooth one isn't whether problems happen. It's how quickly and calmly you handle them.

Here's a survival guide for the most common things that go wrong.

Picking the right format is the first decision every organizer makes, and it's permanent. In Score7, the format is locked once you create your tournament. You can change participants, adjust the schedule, and tweak standings criteria all you want, but the format itself stays.

So it's worth getting it right. This guide covers every major tournament format, explains when each one shines, and gives you a straightforward way to decide which one fits your event.
