Can I Switch Formats After Creating a Tournament?

Can I Change the Format After Creation?

No—once you create a tournament in Score7, its format cannot be changed.

This includes switching between:

  • Single-stage and multi-stage formats
  • Round-robin, knockout, or double elimination
  • Group stage variations or structure types

Why Format Changes Aren’t Allowed

Tournament formats define the core structure of scheduling, progression, and bracket logic. Changing the format mid-way could cause:

  • Broken match data
  • Incompatible standings
  • Scheduling errors

To keep things fast and reliable, Score7 locks the format after creation.

What to Do If You Chose the Wrong Format

If you need a different structure:

  1. Create a new tournament with the correct format
  2. Use the Import from Tournament feature to copy participants from the previous version
  3. Reconfigure the rules, colors, and settings as needed

This takes only a minute and ensures your new tournament starts clean.

Common Mistake Examples

  • Chose single elimination but needed group + knockout? → Use multistage format
  • Started with a round-robin but want a bracket? → Create a knockout-format tournament instead

Can I Add a Knockout Stage to an Existing League?

No. You cannot append new stages after creation. If you need group-to-knockout flow, choose multistage during tournament setup.
