How to Randomize or Edit Match Pairings Manually
Manually Editing Match Pairings
Score7 lets you take control over who plays whom in each round. This is especially useful if you want to:
- Change the default matchups
- Rebalance pairings based on real-world constraints
- Customize home and away order
- Modify round-robin group stages
How to Edit Match Pairings
- Go to the Matches section in your tournament
- Navigate to the round or stage you want to edit
- Click Update Matches in This Round at the top-right of the round
What You Can Do
Once in pairing edit mode:
1. Change Matchups
- Use dropdowns to reassign participants to different match slots
- Adjust both home and away sides freely
2. Swap Home/Away
- Click the Swap button to flip home and away teams for a specific match
3. Add or Remove Matches (Round-Robin Only)
- Add additional matches to the round manually
- Remove matches if fewer pairings are needed
- Useful for custom group stages, or to enforce specific rivalry matchups
For Knockout Stages
In knockout formats:
- You can reassign participants in each round manually
- You cannot add or remove matches, since bracket structure must be preserved
- Third-place matches can be enabled or disabled in Overview > Tournament Settings
Seeding is determined by order of participant entry unless manually overridden using this feature.
Group Balancing Tip
If you're working within a round-robin group stage, you can also:
- Shuffle participants across groups from the Participants page
- Manually assign groups for more control
- Then fine-tune the matches per group using this pairing editor
When Should You Use This?
Use this feature when:
- You need to enforce specific pairings (e.g., based on rivalries or constraints)
- You're adapting a pre-built bracket
- Your group stage requires a custom fixture model
