How to Withdraw or Reinstate a Participant

Withdrawing a Participant

If a participant needs to leave the tournament mid-way — due to disqualification, no-show, injury, or any other reason — you can withdraw them instead of deleting them. This keeps the bracket structure and match history intact while automatically handling remaining matches.

How to Withdraw

  1. Go to the Participants page (or Teams if teams are enabled)
  2. Find the participant and open their action menu
  3. Select Withdraw
  4. Choose whether to keep past results (see below)
  5. Confirm the withdrawal

All remaining unplayed matches automatically become walkovers — the opponent wins without play.

What Happens to Past Results

By default, all past results and statistics are cleared when you withdraw a participant. Their played matches are converted to walkovers for the opponent.

If you want to preserve the scores and stats from matches already played, check "Keep past results and statistics" before confirming.

How Withdrawn Participants Appear

  • Their name shows with strikethrough styling in the participant list and match views
  • Walkover matches display "W.O." instead of a numeric score
  • The opponent is shown as the winner

What Happens When Both Participants Are Withdrawn

If both participants in a match are withdrawn, the match is voided. Voided matches show "Voided" centered between the two participants. In the standings, voided matches count as played but award zero points and no win, draw, or loss.

Multi-Stage Tournaments

Withdrawing a participant cascades across all stages. If the participant had advanced to a knockout stage, their matches there also become walkovers.

If you regenerate the tournament schedule (e.g., by changing settings or participants), walkovers for withdrawn participants are automatically re-applied — you don't need to withdraw them again.

How to Reinstate a Withdrawn Participant

Changed your mind? You can bring a participant back:

  1. Go to the Participants page
  2. Find the withdrawn participant (shown with strikethrough)
  3. Open their action menu
  4. Select Reinstate

The participant becomes active again and the walkover results from their remaining matches are cleared. Standings and bracket advancement are recalculated.

Note: If past results were cleared during withdrawal, the original scores are not restored — only the walkovers from previously unplayed matches are removed.

Setting a Single Match as a Walkover

You don't have to withdraw a participant to record a walkover. To forfeit a single match:

  1. Open the match and click Update Result
  2. Toggle the walkover option
  3. Choose which side wins
  4. Save

The losing participant stays active for all their other matches. Only this one match is recorded as a walkover.

Tips

  • Walkover points are worth the same as regular win points in the standings
  • You can withdraw multiple participants — each one's remaining matches become walkovers independently
  • Voided matches (both participants withdrawn) can also be set manually using the "Void match" checkbox in the Update Result dialog
